Exploring Future Career Pathways

Recently, Wests Group Australia proudly hosted our fourth Industry Day in partnership with the Clontarf Foundation, welcoming approximately 40 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from across the Hunter region to explore career pathways and opportunities within our organisation.

The day commenced with a presentation from Wests Group RAP Officer, Jason May, who shared his personal journey and experiences around education and employment opportunities. Jason encouraged students to continue exploring future career options, remain committed to their education, and begin preparing for life after school.

Designed to showcase the diversity of career opportunities available across Wests Group Australia, students rotated through a range of practical and interactive sessions led by department managers and team members. Throughout the day, students gained hands-on experience and workplace exposure across Catering, Cellar & Stores, Grounds & Horticulture, Hotel, and The Balance Health Club. Session facilitators also shared their own career journeys, highlighting the training, development opportunities, and progression pathways they have experienced during their employment with Wests.

In addition to the practical activities, students received information packs containing guidance on resume writing, job applications, and interview preparation to help support their future employment aspirations. The Industry Day aims to encourage students to think about future career pathways, provide valuable exposure to real workplace environments, and inspire consideration of future employment opportunities with Wests Group Australia.

The day concluded with a touch football match officiated by Newcastle Knights NRLW player Botille Vette-Welsh, who also presented Knights merchandise to students who demonstrated outstanding engagement and participation throughout the event.

Our partnership with the Clontarf Foundation continues to be an important part of our commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Having now hosted four Industry Days together, we are proud to continue creating meaningful opportunities for students to explore career pathways, develop workplace skills, and build confidence for their future.
