Wests is proud to have supported Purple Friday, a statewide initiative bringing registered clubs across NSW together to stand against domestic and family violence (DFV).
Purple Friday reflects our ongoing commitment to raising awareness and supporting those impacted by DFV. While the official Purple Friday took place on 8 May, Wests continued to back the initiative throughout May in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Throughout the month, we encouraged Wests members and guests to contribute what they could to help people in need. Every donation helped provide comfort, dignity, and practical support to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
All funds raised supported Nova for Women and Children, a long-standing community partner that assists women who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or escaping domestic and family violence across Lake Macquarie and Newcastle’s western suburbs.
Nova for Women and Children CEO Brittany Jack reflected on the impact of the donations:
“When women leave violence or are homeless, they often don’t have the basic items they need like blankets, warm clothing or toiletries, nappies and food. It’s so important to the healing of the women and children we serve that they know someone cares for them and is there to help.
“These donations will not only make sure our clients are warm this winter – they will know that their community cares, and that means a lot.
“We’ve had enough blankets, linen and doonas donated that we can make sure all the women and children staying in our refuges, transitional housing, or new clients who may not have the basics they need, are provided for.”
