The Wests Group, through the statewide NSW Government ClubGRANTS program, is proud to support the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation with a $25,000 donation, helping to ensure no local breast cancer patient misses critical treatment due to transport barriers.
The Cancer Transport Program provides free, reliable transport to treatment for patients across the Hunter who face financial hardship, illness-related fatigue, or limited access to public transport. Delivered through volunteer drivers, rideshare services, and hire cars, the program reduces stress and supports patients to access care with dignity and compassion.
In the past year alone, the program delivered 2,351 return trips for 207 cancer patients, including 717 trips for 64 patients in Lake Macquarie. ClubGRANTS funding will support the recruitment and training of additional volunteer drivers, assist with transport costs, and strengthen coordination to ensure patients are not left without support.
More than a transport service, the program is a vital connection, helping patients reach treatment, remain engaged with their community, and navigate a challenging time with care and support.
