The Nelson Bay Diggers Social Bridge Club was founded by Ron Young, who recognised in 1996, the need for bridge players to enjoy the game in a less formal setting. After approaching the Nelson Bay RSL Club (now Wests Nelson Bay) for a sponsorship to become a new intra-club, the Nelson Bay Social Bridge Club was formed in 1997 with approximately 60 members. Though Young passed away in June 2023, the legacy continues to flourish in the Port Stephens community. There are currently 100 members.
The Wests Group has continued to support the Nelson Bay Diggers Social Bridge Club with the club celebrating a Silver Anniversary at the venue in 2022, with the majority of members in attendance.
Bridge sessions are three times a week: Monday 6.30 for 7pm start, Thursday 12.30 for 1pm, and Saturday 12.30 for 1pm. The Bridge Club encourages experienced players and newcomers to come along and join in for a session.
