The Nelson Bay Diggers Fishing Club, is a cherished intra club supported by Wests Nelson Bay through the ClubGRANTS scheme. Celebrating their 50 year anniversary, the club serves as a lively social group for fishing enthusiasts in the Port Stephens area.
Wests Nelson Bay proudly backs the club by funding social activities, securing necessary insurances, and hosting the annual presentation, AGM and committee meetings ahead of competitions.
Monthly Competitions
The fishing club holds monthly club competitions, attracting 10-15 competitors per outing, with prizes for the "Heaviest Bag" and "Heaviest Fish". The weigh-in is based at Little Beach on Sunday afternoon (13:00 - 13:30), followed by a monthly BBQ (free for all members).
Monthly points are tallied at the end of each calendar year to determine the winners across three categories, Deep Sea, Beach & Rock and Lake and Estuary. Prizes are awarded for the angler who wins each category, plus the overall Male and Female Champion and Junior Male & Female Champion (across all categories).
Boasting $700 in prize money up for grabs, the club hosts an Annual Interclub Tournament in November each year against other fishing clubs from around the region, which post-COVID has attracted 60-70 competitors. View more about the next tournament here.

Membership Fees
Competition Members: $30 | Social Members: $20
Note: Membership fees are paid annually and cover members for the calendar year. The Wests Diggers Nelson Bay Fishing Club does not purchase individual fishing licenses; this is the responsibility of each competitive member. The club has insurance to cover the committee as we run an Interclub Tournament. Newcastle District Anglers Association Membership is mandatory as part of the insurance process, with a minimum club membership of 10 members. The club pays these fees.
